Today on the show Jodi interviews Jessica Rasdall, author of Shattered (2019). Here are some highlights from their conversation:

  • Jodi and Jessica discussed the origin of her book. Jessica shared that the idea had been brewing for 11 years before she finally wrote and published Shattered. Jessica couldn’t find the book she was looking for on the bookstore shelf, and her mother encouraged her to write it.

  • As a tip for other author-entrepreneurs, Jessica suggested taking off the pressure by remembering that this is not the only thing you’ll ever put out there. She also recommended getting someone to help navigate the publishing world.

  • Jessica noted that one of the difficult parts to navigate while writing the book was knowing what to share and what not to share. Knowing that the book would be a legacy piece of content put extra pressure to make it good. Once she received permission to not include everything, it was easier to commit to keep going.

  • One of the fun things that’s happened since publishing the book is that Jessica has been able to change the way she navigates speaker negotiations. She’s been able to add profit without increasing her time worked.

  • Jessica noted that she’s typically reading more than one book, and she’s currently reading The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks and re-reading Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl.
